Munkstigen Via Ferrata is a climbing path that makes it tickle in your stomach and give you a fantastic nature experience. Munkstigen is featuring panorama view of the Trondheim fjord, Trondheim city, and its surroundings. Munkstigen is located just beside county road 755, between Leksvik and Vanvikan. Travel time from Trondheim is approximately 1 hour ( ferry included )
Munken got its name because it is an extension of the axes between Nidaros Cathedral, Munkegata, and Munkholmen.
If you would like to challenge yourself, with good friends or family, this is something for you. This is climbing for everyone, and no climbing experience is required.
All climbing must be scheduled in advance. Notice that instructions and safety equipment rental takes place at Hindrum Fjordsenter, and not by the climbing path. You need to travel past Munkstigen by approximately 9 km in direction of Leksvik if you are traveling from Vanvikan.
The climb in itself is approximately 950 meters long. The total of the trip takes an average of about 3-5 hours, up and down. Depending if you are taking the climbing as a purpose of a nice workout or if you are taking more time, enjoying the scenery. This trip is excellent for school classes, work colleagues, associations, student groups, sports teams, families etc.
Persons under the age of 18 needs approval from parent or guardian. Children under the age of 12 need a grown up to follow closely and supervise the whole trip. All participants must be at the age of 7 or minimum a height of at least 135cm. There is no upper age limit.
A guide can be ordered in advance of a minimum of 24-48 hours. Having a guide, however, is not a requirement, but on some occasions, it might be good to have someone with you, that is carrying little more climbing experience and great knowledge of the path.
